Spicy margaritas became a major cocktail trend in the 2010s, driven by the growing popularity of both mezcal and heat-forward drinks. The combination proved irresistible—mezcal's smoke amplifies jalapeño's vegetal spice rather than competing with it. The drink has become a social media favorite and a staple at Mexican restaurants and craft cocktail bars alike.
