Brazilian Lemonade — Limonada Suica in Portuguese, meaning Swiss Lemonade — is actually made from limes rather than lemons, reflecting the regional nomenclature where limes are frequently called limao (lemon) in Brazil. The drink is made by blending whole limes — rind included — with water, sweetened condensed milk, and ice, producing a creamy, pale green beverage with an intense citrus character and the surprising richness of the dairy element. The condensed milk, a Brazilian pantry staple associated with Portuguese and Brazilian culinary tradition, creates the drink's distinctive creamy texture that differentiates it from standard lemonade. The "Swiss" in its name likely references the type of commercial condensed milk brand popular in Brazil. It became internationally known through the growth of Brazilian steakhouse chains like Fogo de Chao and Tucanos.
