Jagermeister was created in 1934 by Wilhelm Mast in Wolfenbuttel, Germany, as a herbal digestif formulated from 56 botanical ingredients including herbs, fruits, roots, and spices. The name translates as 'master of the hunt' in German, and the spirit was originally marketed to hunters and sportsmen. Its signature amber bottle and distinctive stag-head label made it one of the most recognizable spirits in the world. The Jager Bomb emerged in the late 1990s as the energy drink revolution transformed bar culture, particularly after Red Bull launched internationally in 1997. The drink consists of a shot glass of Jagermeister dropped into a glass of energy drink — a bomb-shot format borrowed from the older boilermaker tradition. It became a phenomenon of early-2000s nightclub culture, associated with high-energy venues and collegiate party scenes, eventually becoming one of the bestselling bar shots in the United States.
