Ingredients

  • 2 ozblanco tequila(100% agave preferred)
  • 1 ozfresh lime juice(freshly squeezed)
  • 0.75 ozorange liqueur(such as Cointreau or triple sec)
  • 🍋lime wheel and salt rim(garnish)

Instructions

  1. Run a lime wedge around the rim of a coupe glass and dip in salt if desired.
  2. Add tequila and lime juice and orange liqueur to a shaker with ice.
  3. Shake vigorously for 10-15 seconds until well chilled.
  4. Strain into the prepared glass.
  5. Garnish with a lime wheel.

📜 History

Created in Mexico during the 1930s or 1940s. Multiple origin stories exist including claims from Tijuana and Acapulco. Became hugely popular in the United States by the 1950s.
