📜 History
The French 75 takes its name from the French 75-millimeter field gun used extensively in World War I — the same comparison bartenders made for a cocktail that packs a surprising punch behind a delicate, sparkling appearance. Its exact origin is debated, but most accounts trace it to Harry's New York Bar in Paris in the early 1920s, where gin, lemon juice, sugar, and Champagne were combined for a drink that was simultaneously elegant and forceful. It became one of the most enduring Champagne cocktails of the 20th century. The zero-proof version follows the same structure — NA botanical spirit, fresh lemon, and sweetness shaken together and lifted with sparkling bubbles — making it one of the most convincing and celebratory mocktails available.
