The PB&J Shot is a novelty shooter combining hazelnut liqueur — most commonly Frangelico, produced by the Fratelli Francoli distillery in Ghemme, Piedmont, Italy in a Franciscan friar-shaped bottle — with Chambord black raspberry liqueur, a formula whose flavor closely evokes the classic American peanut butter and jelly sandwich. Frangelico, produced from wild hazelnuts grown in the Piedmont region and infused with herbs and flowers, contributes a roasted nut and vanilla character that approximates peanut butter's toasted nut sweetness when paired with fruit. Chambord, produced in the Loire Valley of France from black raspberries and other fruits, provides the sweet, jammy berry character of grape jelly or fruit preserves. The peanut butter and jelly sandwich — a combination that became a staple of American school lunches from the 1940s onward, when wartime rationing and industrial bread and nut butter production made it the most practical affordable lunch item — is one of the most culturally embedded American food references, making the shot's appeal primarily nostalgic. Peanut butter whiskey products like Skrewball (launched 2018) subsequently provided a more direct peanut butter flavor for the format.
