π History
The Scotch Espresso Martini is a modern variation on Dick Bradsell's 1983 Vodka Espresso creation. As bartenders sought ways to add complexity to the beloved coffee cocktail, swapping neutral vodka for characterful Scotch whisky emerged as a popular trend in the 2020s. The smoky, malty notes of Scotch complement coffee beautifully, creating a richer, more sophisticated drinking experience. This variation gained momentum as part of the broader movement toward spirit-forward cocktails with depth and complexity.
