The 100 Grand shot takes its name from the 100 Grand candy bar, a candy aisle staple that Nestlé introduced in the mid-1960s as the $100,000 Bar. The name was deliberately chosen to evoke the era's popular television quiz shows — programs like The $64,000 Question and The Big Surprise had made cash prize amounts part of everyday cultural vocabulary, and a candy bar named after a life-changing sum was a marketing stroke that wedged the product into American memory. The bar's formula is straightforward: a crisped rice center layered with chewy caramel and coated in milk chocolate, producing a combination of crispy, chewy, and creamy textures in one bite. Nestlé renamed it to the more trademark-friendly 100 Grand in the mid-1980s, and the bar passed to Ferrero following Nestlé's sale of its American confectionery business in 2018. The shot attempts to recreate this flavor profile in liquid form.
