The Canadian Hunter Shot is a straightforward two-ingredient bar shot combining equal parts Canadian whisky and American bourbon, poured directly into a shot glass rather than shaken or built over ice. Unlike many novelty shots, it carries no documented inventor or origin story -- it belongs to the broad, informal tradition of simple spirit-forward bar shots built to showcase two whiskey styles side by side rather than to disguise them with juice or liqueur. Canadian whisky, most commonly a corn-based blended whisky finished with a small proportion of rye grain for spice, tends toward a lighter, smoother profile than American whiskies; Canadian law treats the terms "Canadian whisky" and "rye whisky" as interchangeable regardless of the exact rye content, a regulatory quirk unique to Canada.
