📜 History

The Capeta — Portuguese for "little devil" — originated in Porto Seguro in the state of Bahia, more than a thousand kilometers north of Rio de Janeiro. It became the go-to party drink of northern Brazil, especially popular on beaches and at festive celebrations. The name reflects both its deep red-brown color and its reputedly deceptive drinkability: the sweetened condensed milk and cinnamon mask the strength of the cachaça so effectively that the drink's potency can catch drinkers off guard. The optional guaraná powder, derived from an Amazonian berry prized for its energizing properties, adds to its devil-may-care reputation. Regional variations number in the dozens, but the classic formula of cachaça, condensed milk, cinnamon, and guaraná remains the defining recipe.
