The Grinch Jello Shot draws from Dr. Seuss's How the Grinch Stole Christmas, first published in 1957 and adapted into the 1966 CBS animated television special that became one of the most-watched holiday broadcasts in American history. The Grinch's vivid green color and his eventual transformation from Christmas-hating villain to holiday convert made him a natural inspiration for a festive, green-colored holiday shot. The jello shot uses lime gelatin or green melon-flavored gelatin combined with vodka and Midori to achieve the character's signature green, and sometimes includes a Grinch-inspired garnish. The combination of holiday theming and vivid color made it a popular choice for Christmas party shots in the 2000s and 2010s, when themed party drinks became a standard hosting consideration.
