The brand passed through various ownerships before Irish Distillers Limited consolidated the major Irish whiskey brands and was subsequently acquired by Pernod Ricard in 1988. Production moved to the Midleton Distillery in County Cork. Jameson's US market development through the 2000s involved promoting the brand not as a sipping whiskey requiring prior knowledge but as an approachable mixer, and the Jameson and Ginger pairing — Jameson over ice in a tall glass with ginger ale and a lime wedge — became the primary format for this education.
