History & Origin

The Nojito is the non-alcoholic version of the Mojito — the Cuban rum cocktail combining white rum, fresh lime, mint, sugar, and soda water that is documented in Cuban cocktail guides from at least the 1920s and gained global fame through its associations with Havana's bar culture and Ernest Hemingway's reported fondness for the drink. The Mojito's flavor profile — fresh mint, lime, gentle sweetness, and effervescence — is so naturally appealing that the alcohol-free version barely requires substitution: removing the rum and replacing it with additional soda water, a touch of apple juice for body, or a non-alcoholic spirit leaves a genuinely complete and refreshing mocktail. The Nojito became one of the first mainstream mocktails that drinkers ordered not from necessity but from preference, recognizing the flavor as complete without the spirit.
