History & Origin

Pomegranate Fizz capitalizes on the commercial pomegranate renaissance of the early 2000s, when POM Wonderful's aggressive marketing of bottled pomegranate juice as a superfood created an entirely new consumer category for the fruit. The pomegranate — cultivated for at least 5,000 years across the Middle East, Persia, and Mediterranean — had been a niche specialty ingredient in the US before POM Wonderful invested in clinical research connecting pomegranate polyphenols to cardiovascular health. Their 2002 national launch transformed pomegranate from exotic to mainstream, making it widely available in American supermarkets. The carbonated format amplifies pomegranate's naturally bright, tart-sweet character, and the fruit's iconic ruby-red color makes Pomegranate Fizz one of the most visually striking mocktails.
