History & Origin

The Quick Fuck is a layered novelty shot from the 1980s category of suggestively named American bar drinks that combined theatrical presentation with genuinely pleasant flavor. The drink layers Kahlúa coffee liqueur, Baileys Irish Cream, and Cointreau orange liqueur in a small shot glass, the three components' different densities producing visible separation that collapses when the shot is consumed quickly. Kahlúa, produced in Veracruz, Mexico since 1936 from a blend of Arabica coffee, sugar, vanilla, and rum, provides the dark, bitter-sweet coffee base. Baileys Original Irish Cream, introduced in 1974 as the world's first commercially produced Irish cream liqueur and made from a blend of Irish whiskey, cream, and neutral spirit stabilized with an emulsifier, provides the dairy sweetness in the middle layer. Cointreau, the triple-distilled orange liqueur produced by the Cointreau family in Saint-Barthélemy-d'Anjou, France since 1875 from both sweet and bitter orange peels, provides the citrus element as the float. The combination — coffee, cream, and orange — is the same flavor triad found in the Harvey Wallbanger, the Screwdriver with a float of Galliano, and numerous other cocktails that pair citrus with coffee and dairy. The shot's commercial success through the 1980s and 1990s reflected the same marketing insight that drove the entire suggestive-name shot category: that memorable names created orders, and that the flavor delivered was pleasant enough to justify the repeat.
