📜 History
The Butterscotch Martini is a dessert cocktail that emerged in American bars during the 1990s as flavored vodkas and schnapps became widely available. Bartenders seeking sweet post-dinner cocktail alternatives found the pairing of vanilla vodka and butterscotch schnapps to be a natural combination, delivering candy-bar richness in a spirit-forward format. The name follows the loose convention, established in the 1990s, of calling any chilled, strained cocktail served in a coupe or martini glass a martini. Some variations add a small measure of heavy cream or Irish cream for additional richness, though the two-ingredient shaken version remains the most widely documented form.
