The Cape Codder was invented in the 1940s when Ocean Spray created the recipe (originally called the Red Devil) to promote cranberry juice cocktails. Named after Cape Cod, Massachusetts, famous for cranberry bogs, the drink became a cornerstone of the vodka cranberry family of cocktails.
