📜 History
The chocolate martini emerged during the flavored martini boom of the 1990s, when American bar culture embraced the martini glass as a vessel for creative dessert-style cocktails. While the exact origin is disputed, the drink became a fixture on hotel bar and restaurant menus throughout the late 1990s and 2000s, particularly popular at chain establishments where dessert cocktails were standard. The addition of Irish cream — which brings natural chocolate and vanilla notes from its blend of Irish whiskey and cream — became the defining upgrade that elevated it from a simple spirit-and-liqueur combination into a genuinely indulgent finish to a meal. It remains one of the most requested dessert cocktails, especially around Valentine's Day and the winter holidays.
