Galliano Hot Shot
A Scandinavian layered shot of Galliano, hot coffee, and lightly whipped cream — cozy, indulgent, and deceptively simple.
- 1Pour Galliano into a shot glass.
- 2Slowly layer the hot black coffee on top of the Galliano by pouring over the back of a bar spoon.
- 3Gently layer the lightly whipped cream on top of the coffee the same way.
- 4Drink in one sip without mixing, so the layers hit separately.

The Galliano Hot Shot was created in 1987 by Swedish bartender Bosse Bergström for a coffee drink competition held in Stockholm. The original recipe used anisette, but Galliano was substituted after the competition and the drink became a defining Scandinavian bar staple. Galliano sales in Sweden reportedly increased by 750 percent over the six years following the drink's rise to prominence, per the brand's own account. The Hot Shot became so culturally embedded in Swedish nightlife that it has its own national observance: the third Friday of November.
