History & Origin

The Ginger Sunrise adapts the visual logic of the Tequila Sunrise — the gradient cocktail whose modern form was created at the Trident restaurant in Sausalito in 1972 — to a ginger-forward non-alcoholic format, replacing the tequila and grenadine gradient with a ginger beer and citrus base that allows the red-orange gradient to develop naturally from fruit juice density differences. Ginger beer, traditionally a naturally fermented, slightly alcoholic ginger beverage, became a major commercial non-alcoholic category through brands like Fever-Tree (launched 2005) and Bundaberg that positioned premium ginger beer as a sophisticated mixer and standalone drink. The sunrise color effect — red-orange to yellow — communicates visual drama and celebration regardless of the spirit content, making the Ginger Sunrise equally suited to mocktail menus.
