📜 History
The Grasshopper Martini is a spirit-forward evolution of the classic Grasshopper cocktail, which was invented by Philip Guichet of New Orleans' Tujague's restaurant around 1918. The original IBA-recognised Grasshopper is a three-ingredient equal-parts combination of green creme de menthe, white creme de cacao, and cream, with no base spirit. The Grasshopper Martini adds vodka to that trio, creating a cocktail with a genuine spirit backbone that makes it at home on a martini menu. It became popular as a St. Patrick's Day cocktail thanks to its vivid emerald color and its dessert-like flavor of mint chocolate chip.
