📜 History

The Hazelnut Espresso Martini is a popular riff on the Espresso Martini created by London bartender Dick Bradsell in 1983. The hazelnut variation emerged in the early 2020s as the espresso martini's resurgence brought creative variations to bar menus worldwide. The addition of hazelnut liqueur — typically an Italian hazelnut liqueur like those made in the Piedmont region — adds a warm, nutty sweetness that complements the roasted bitterness of fresh espresso. By 2024, the Hazelnut Espresso Martini had become one of the most requested espresso martini variations in bars across the UK, USA, and Australia.
