The Honeymoon Cocktail is a Prohibition-era American drink that pairs apple brandy or Calvados with Bénédictine — two spirits whose apple and herbal characters are among the most naturally complementary combinations in the cocktail canon. Apple brandy from America's applejack tradition or Calvados from Normandy carries the stone-fruit sweetness and barrel warmth of orchard distillates, and Bénédictine's blend of 27 herbs and spices — produced commercially in Fécamp, Normandy since 1863 — includes angelica, hyssop, and citrus elements that interact with apple spirit in ways that make the pairing feel geographically and botanically logical. The Honeymoon's additional components of triple sec and lemon juice provide the orange citrus element and the acid structure that bring the drink into the sour format's balance, preventing the apple-herbal sweetness of the two main ingredients from becoming cloying. The drink appears in several American cocktail guides from the 1930s onward, and its celebration-occasion name connected it to the post-Prohibition era's enthusiasm for festive-themed drinks.
