The Jolly Rancher Shot takes its inspiration from the Jolly Rancher candy brand, introduced by the Jolly Rancher Company of Golden, Colorado in 1949. The candy became famous for its intensely concentrated, single-note fruit flavors — watermelon, green apple, cherry, blue raspberry — delivered in a hard candy shell with an unusually high flavor impact relative to its small size. Recreating that intensity in cocktail form proved a popular challenge for bartenders in the 1990s, who experimented with combinations of flavored schnapps, fruit vodkas, and fruit liqueurs to capture each individual Jolly Rancher variety. The watermelon and green apple versions became particularly popular. The brand's association with concentrated sweetness made it an ideal model for dessert-style shots that delivered maximum flavor impact in a single pour.
