History & Origin

The Olympic cocktail first appeared in print around 1922, with Harry McElhone crediting Frank Meier of the Ritz Hotel Paris in his 1927 Barflies and Cocktails. Despite the golden medal-worthy name, this drink was likely named after the RMS Olympic ocean liner, sister ship to the Titanic, rather than the athletic games. The equal-parts formula creates a perfectly balanced brandy sour.
