Sloe Comfortable Screw Shot
Vodka, sloe gin, Southern Comfort, and OJ — the Screwdriver extended with English 18th-century sloe gin and Heron's 1874 New Orleans Southern Comfort.

The Sloe Comfortable Screw is a variation on the Screwdriver (vodka and orange juice) that adds sloe gin and Southern Comfort, with the cocktail's full name being a playful compilation of its ingredient names. Sloe gin, made by macerating sloe berries — the bitter drupe of the blackthorn shrub — in gin with sugar, has been produced in England since at least the 18th century. Southern Comfort, a whiskey-based liqueur with fruit and spice flavoring created by M.W. Heron in New Orleans in 1874, added Southern sweetness to the formula. The shot version concentrates this layered combination into a quick pour, and its provocatively worded name made it a reliable conversation starter in American bars during the 1980s, when the cocktail and its variations were standard casual bar menu items.
