📜 History
The Tipperary is named after the famous World War I marching song "It's a Long Way to Tipperary" and the Irish county. The cocktail first appeared in Hugo Ensslin's 1916 "Recipes for Mixed Drinks." It combines Irish whiskey with green Chartreuse and sweet vermouth in a stirred format that showcases Irish whiskey's smooth, slightly pot-still character. The Chartreuse adds herbal complexity that works beautifully with Irish whiskey's gentle spiciness. The Tipperary was largely forgotten during the 20th century but has been revived as bartenders explore Irish whiskey's cocktail potential beyond simple highballs.
