📜 History
A traditional Christmas-time cocktail in the United States, sometimes attributed to British writer Pierce Egan in the 1820s. The drink is named after characters in Egan's 1821 book "Life in London." While bartender Jerry Thomas later claimed credit and included it in his influential guides, evidence suggests the drink predates him. The festive punch requires a special batter of eggs, sugar, and spices, mixed with brandy and rum and topped with hot milk. It became synonymous with American Christmas celebrations, particularly in the Upper Midwest.
