History & Origin

The Beal's Cocktail traces its roots to at least 1914, appearing in the book Drinks published that year, and later in the 1935 Mr. Boston Official Bartender's Guide. It is a close cousin of the Beadlestone Cocktail -- both use Scotch and dry vermouth -- but the Beal's introduces an equal measure of sweet vermouth alongside the dry, creating a balanced blend of the two styles. The equal-parts vermouth construction keeps neither sweetness nor dryness dominant, allowing the Scotch to remain the centrepiece while the vermouths add layered herbal complexity.
