History & Origin

The Black Apple Old-Fashioned was created by Sother Teague at Amor y Amargo, his New York amaros and bitters bar. The drink is based on a simple insight: Teague argued that Jägermeister — with its sweetness, botanical bitters, and slight dilution — already contains all four components of a classic Old-Fashioned in a single bottle. The Black Apple Old-Fashioned builds on that foundation by adding apple brandy for proof and fruit depth, and apple bitters to reinforce the fruit connection. The recipe was published by PUNCH Magazine as part of their Jägermeister cocktail feature. Amor y Amargo, which opened in 2012, is widely regarded as one of the most influential amaro-focused bars in the United States.
