Ingredients

  • 2 ozbrandy
  • ½ ozsimple syrup
  • 1 ozhot water
  • 🍋Flamed orange peel(garnish)

Instructions

  1. Warm the brandy gently (do not boil).
  2. Pour into a heatproof glass.
  3. Carefully ignite the brandy with a long lighter.
  4. Express an orange peel through the flame (oils will ignite).
  5. Extinguish by adding the hot water and syrup.
  6. Stir and serve immediately.
  7. CAUTION: Use extreme care with open flame.

Jerry Thomas famously performed the Blue Blazer, passing flaming whiskey between two mugs. The Brandy Blazer is a simpler home version where brandy is warmed, ignited, and the flame extinguished by adding sweetened water. The citrus oils ignite dramatically.
